The Citizens Theatre provides an extensive programme of learning and participation activities, working with people of all ages and abilities and in institutions ranging from primary schools to prisons.

The key focus, though, is on working closely with people experiencing social isolation, mental health issues and other, related, difficulties. This has lead us to engaging with people experiencing homelessness, those seeking asylum, people in recovery, and other marginalised communities.

The Citizens strongly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take part in the life of the Theatre, either by watching a play or by direct participation. Through this involvement, people can nurture the development of creative skills and self-confidence in an inclusive environment. We see drama as a fantastic vehicle for positive social change.
